Bleacher Report – Vikings

Good news for two potential Vikings draft targets

By Matthew Coller

Michigan’s Maurice Hurst and Ohio State’s Billy Price, who could each be on the Minnesota Vikings’ radar at No. 30 in the NFL Draft, did not exactly have things turn out as well as they expected at the NFL Combine.

Hurst did not participate in Combine activities after being diagnosed with a heart condition. On Thursday, he was cleared to play football. He will participate in Michigan’s pro day on Friday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Michigan’s potential first-round pick Mo Hurst has met with cardiologists at University of Michigan and Harvard, and they have cleared him to resume playing football, per league source. Hurst will do a full workout at Michigan’s pro day on Friday.

Hurst fits the profile of a Mike Zimmer three-technique defensive tackle. He is undersized at 6-foot-282-pounds. He picked up 13 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks this year and first-team All-Big Ten honors. Hurst entered the combine projected as a first-round selection. profile:

“Hurst is an upfield three-technique who gets out of the blocks ahead of his competition as soon as the starter’s pistol goes off. His ability to come out fast and low should create opportunities to become a disruptive penetrator, but he has to prove that he has the strength to play through redirect blocks and hold up against NFL interior linemen.”

Ohio State held its pro day on Friday and Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman were on hand.

Interior offensive lineman Billy Price, a projected late first-round pick, suffered a pectoral muscle injury while doing the bench press at the Combine. His injury was said to be minor but he was still in a sling on Thursday.

However, NFL Network reported the sling is coming off soon.

Ohio State C/G Billy Price tore his pectoral muscle at the combine. He told me his sling comes off in a week, showed off how he can move his arm and said he hopes the game tape from his 55 consecutive games still makes him a 1st rounder in @NFL Draft

Price suggested after the injury that he could be ready within four months, which would mean being ready for training camp.

The Vikings are on the market for a starting guard and the Buckeyes’ All-American lineman could be available at the bottom of the first round. draft profile:

“Plays like a Wildling at times with tremendous explosiveness, strength and, almost excessive initial charge. Price’s power and leverage give him a huge advantage over most centers in this draft. He should be able to come into the league and deal with NFL power right away. However, his impatience as a blocker and tendency to charge in head-first will be used against him by savvy NFL opponents if he doesn’t get it cleaned up. Price is an early starter with Pro Bowl potential.”

C Billy Price isn’t participating today (obviously) but it still meeting with teams
