10 remaining free agents who could help the Vikings

By Matthew Coller

With a shade over $20 million in cap space remaining following the signings of Kirk Cousins and Sheldon Richardson, the Minnesota Vikings can still add to positions of need on the free agent market. Most of the top players are off the board, but there are still a handful who could step into a role for the 2018 Vikings and make a difference. Here are 10 free agents who could help the Vikings…

CB, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

From 2013-2016, he was considered a top-notch corner, especially when playing in the nickel position. He wasn’t as impressive last season, but still ranked in the top half of the league by Pro Football Focus.

WR, Kendall Wright

As Chicago’s slot receiver, Wright had a strong season pulling in 59 catches for 614 yards.

TE, Luke Wilson

For a player who stands 6-foot-5, 255-pounds, Wilson is fast. He ran a 4.5 40-yard dash at his Pro Day back in 2013. While Wilson wasn’t a huge contributor to the Seahawks he still made 30 catches over the last two seasons and might fit into the Vikings’ group of tight ends.

CB, Ross Cockrell

An under-appreciated, versatile corner, Cockrell has consistently been a strong player, ranking 38th by PFF metrics last season.

WR, Jordan Matthews

Battling injuries, Matthews only made 25 catches for the Bills last season, but had 73 receptions in 2016. He’s got size at 6-foot-3 and enough speed to go deep.

DE, Kony Ealy

As a situational pass rusher, he picked up 14 sacks over three years in Carolina. Ealy’s value is down because of a one-sack season last year, but he still pressured the quarterback and might fit in if the Vikings want to get Everson Griffen or Danielle Hunter more rest in 2018.

RB, Benny Cunningham

With Jerick McKinnon signed in San Francisco, the Vikings are officially on the market for a No. 3 running back. Cunningham is a skilled receiver out of the backfield. He made 20 grabs last year for the Bears.

RB, Charles Sims

Sims is coming off a solid season as a role player. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry (on only 21 rushes) and caught 35 passes.

WR, Eli Rogers

Injured last season, Rogers did not make the same impact as he did in 2016 when he managed 48 receptions for 594 yards. He is coming back from an ACL injury.

CB, Robert McClain

Tampa’s nickel corner had three interceptions last season and only allowed a 78.4 rating on throws into his coverage.
