Report: Cardinals to release Adrian Peterson

By Matthew Coller

Adrian Peterson has said more than once that he wants to play into his late 30s, but he may have reached the end of the road.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Peterson will be released by the Arizona Cardinals.

Last season, the former Minnesota Viking signed with the New Orleans Saints but was traded to Arizona following an injury to star David Johnson.

Peterson had two 100-yard performances in Arizona, finishing the season with 529 yards on 156 carries between his two teams.

Currently Peterson sits in 12th place on the all-time rushing list, just three yards behind Marshall Faulk and within 500 yards of cracking the top 10.

Following a neck injury that ended his year in Arizona, Peterson told ESPN’s Josina Anderson that he wants to return in 2018, but finding a job might prove difficult after he averaged just 3.4 yards per carry last year.

Cardinals expected to release RB Adrian Peterson today, per source. Peterson has a $750,000 bonus due on the third day of league year, Friday, so Arizona saves money. But Peterson still could return to Arizona later, per source.
