Eagles trade for Seahawks’ Michael Bennett, stack up D-line even more

By Matthew Coller

The Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive line played a major role in their Super Bowl victory in February. Just over a month since raising the Lombardi Trophy, they have added even more talent.

ESPN’s Josina Anderson is reporting that the Eagles have traded for Seattle Seahawks pass rusher Michael Bennett, who had 8.5 sacks last season.

I’m told DE Michael Bennett is going to be traded to the Philadelphia #Eagles.

Bennett will replace Vinny Curry, who had 3.0 sacks last season, as a situational pass rusher. The Eagles will also likely lose defensive tackle Beau Allen.

Still, the veteran defensive end joins Brandon Graham (9.5 sacks), Derek Barnett (5.0) and Chris Long (5.0) as the Eagles’ premier edge rushers and All-Pro defensive tackle Fletcher Cox on the inside.

The price for Bennett’s services was wide receiver Marcus Johnson and a fifth-round pick. The Eagles also get a seventh-round pick. Johnson had five receptions for Philly last year.
