Bleacher Report – Vikings

Thursday was a good day for Everson Griffen

By Matthew Coller

Ice Cube would be jealous of Everson Griffen’s day.

Prior to the game, the Minnesota Vikings’ top pass rusher watched his wife give birth to a baby boy on FaceTime, then he found a way to honor his third son.

Following his first sack of quarterback Matthew Stafford, Griffen revealed his undershirt, which requested people send baby names for the newest addition to his family.

“I was just thinking about doing something and just thought of that, thought it would be funny,” Griffen said.

Will Griffen actually take suggestions on the baby names via social media?

“I’ll check it, but I called my wife first to make sure the baby was doing good,” he said. “Everything’s good, she’s good, so we’re all excited.”

With 12 sacks in 10 games, Griffen is having the best season of his career. Against the Lions, he dominated former first-round left tackle Taylor Decker, taking down Stafford twice and pressuring him numerous other times throughout the game.

“I’ve focused on my mental, worked on myself this offseason,” Griffen said. “I understand who I am as a person and it’s [paid] dividends.”

Griffen has been at the center of the Vikings’ highly-ranked defense, which has played a major role in their 9-2 start to the season. The win over Detroit puts Minnesota in commanding lead in the NFC North.

“It means everything,” Griffen said. “We’re 9-2, we’ve faced a lot of adversity, but we fought through and stayed composed, now we just have to keep it up.”
