The Philadelphia 76ers would appreciate Teddy Bridgewater’s approach to remaining the backup quarterback to Case Keenum this week.
“For me it’s all about being patient, continuing to trust the process and stand behind whoever is in there,” Bridgewater said Thursday.
The Minnesota Vikings will start Case Keenum this week against the Los Angeles Rams rather than turn the ball back to the prodigal son. Both quarterbacks have done their best to avoid questions about the future at the position.
“Whoever is in there, our goal is to push each other,” Bridgewater said. “Case is in there, I’m going to do whatever I can to push him, whether it’s being a second pair of eyes for him on the sideline or in the film room, even on the practice field. That’s what I want to do. At the end of the day, it’s about making the team better. ”
Keenum earned another start by throwing for 304 yards in a 38-30 win over Washington last Sunday.
If the Vikings eventually do turn the ball over to Bridgewater, it will be in a very different offense than he ran in 2015.
“It’s a different scheme,” he said. “It’s still just allowing your playmakers to make plays. Pat [Shurmur] talks about, ‘It’s not the plays, it’s the players.’ So we have a great group of guys, they’re doing everything the coaching staff is asking of them, flying around making plays. It’s exciting.”
Bridgewater has been back in practice with the Vikings since October 18 and has not been listed on the injury report with any limitations since his comeback. The Vikings’ quarterback says he is getting more comfortable running the offense in practice.
Asked where he’s grown over the last month within the offense, Bridgewater said:
“With my mindset with each play. Identifying small details within each play, whether it could be a matchup or mechanics. So just sharpening up my game mentally and identying different matchups and things like that.”
