Tight end Cook departs without agreeing to contract; Murray apparently continues visit

By Judd Zulgad

Free agent Jared Cook spent Wednesday visiting the Vikings but the tight end left without agreeing to a contract.

The Vikings announced via their Twitter account on Wednesday night that Cook’s visit with the team had concluded. Cook, who spent last season with the Green Bay Packers, reportedly met with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this week and will now visit with the Oakland Raiders.

The Vikings are looking to add another tight end after losing Rhett Ellison to the New York Giants in free agency. Cook, who will turn 30 on April 7, has played with the Titans, Rams and Packers. He caught 30 passes for 377 yards and one touchdown in 10 games in his only season with the Packers.

While the Vikings acknowledged that Cook left Winter Park, there was no such update on running back Latavius Murray’s visit coming to an end. Murray, 27, was a sixth-round pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2013 and rushed for 788 yards on 195 carries with 12 touchdowns last season. He also caught 33 passes for 264 yards in 2016.

The Vikings appear to be targeting Murray as the replacement for free agent running back Adrian Peterson. Eddie Lacy visited the Vikings last weekend but he ended up signing with the Seattle Seahawks. Peterson also visited Seattle but he remains a free agent.
