Vikings fullback Zach Line signs restricted free agent tender

By Andrew Krammer

MINNEAPOLIS — Zach Line is now officially a part of the team as the Vikings begin voluntary offseason workouts for the 2016 season.

Line, the fourth-year fullback, signed his restricted free agent tender on Monday. Last month, the Vikings placed the low-round tender on Line with a one-year deal worth $1.67 million, which means they did risk losing him without compensation. Until he signed, Line was technically a free agent and able to negotiate offers with other teams and the Vikings would’ve had the ability to match any offer. The deadline is Friday for all restricted free agents to sign offer sheets.

Line, 25, remains in Minnesota, where he began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent in 2013 out of Southern Methodist. He took over the Vikings’ fullback role last season for Jerome Felton, appearing in all 17 games with six catches for 95 yards and a touchdown.

He becomes the 13th Vikings player to re-sign, joining linebacker Chad Greenway, safety Andrew Sendejo, cornerback Terence Newman, linebacker Audie Cole, running back Matt Asiata, tight end Rhett Ellison, guard Mike Harris, cornerback Marcus Sherels, nose tackle Kenrick Ellis, defensive end Justin Trattou, as well as ERFA re-signings in receiver Adam Thielen and tackle Carter Bykowski.
