Reports: Percy Harvin to retire after seven NFL seasons

By Andrew Krammer

Former Vikings receiver Percy Harvin will reportedly retire after his age 27 season.

Since being traded from Minnesota following the 2012 season, Harvin has played 19 games in three seasons for three different teams. He most recently spent last season with the Buffalo Bills, extinguishing a hot start, including a 51-yard touchdown in the opener, by landing on injured reserve in November with knee and hip problems.

Despite dealing with health problems for much of his career, Harvin was a dynamic playmaker for the Vikings in four seasons. Between rushing, receiving and returning, Harvin compiled 29 touchdowns in 56 games after he was drafted with the 22nd-overall pick in 2009. Though his unpredictable on-field play was matched off the field — and on the sideline, including one public incident where Harvin yelled at then-coach Leslie Frazier in a 2012 game against the Seattle Seahawks. Months later, he was traded to Seattle for first-, third- and seventh-round picks.

Harvin’s one-year stint in Seattle peaked with an 87-yard touchdown return and a championship ring in the Seahawks’ victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 48. Halfway through the following season, he was traded to the New York Jets for a mid-round draft pick.
