Reports: Vikings sign speedster and former CFL receiver Terrell Sinkfield

By Derek Wetmore

The Vikings have added some blazing speed at wide receiver.

Former CFL wide receiver Terrell Sinkfield has signed with the Vikings, according to reports. The news was first reported by TSN’s Gary Lawless.

Sinkfield, 25, was born in Minnetonka and went to school at Northern Iowa. He gained some fame when he clocked a 40-yard dash time of 4.19 seconds at the University of Minnesota’s pro day in 2013. Still, some question the accuracy of the clock on that timing, and Sinkfield went undrafted that year. He’s listed at 6-foot-1, 192 pounds.

He’s spent a brief amount of time with the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills and New York Giants before joining the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL in 2014. Later, he joined the Hamilton Tigercats of the same league.

The speedy receiver caught 69 passes for the TiCats in 2015 for 1,030 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 28 carries for 132 yards (4.7 yard per carry). He returned kicks and punts for his team.

Sinkfield’s signing is interesting for a Vikings team that has some sorting out to do at wide receiver. Former first-round pick Cordarrelle Patterson made a difference in returning kicks this year, but he was mostly a non-factor on offense. The Vikings also traded for Mike Wallace to be a downfield threat, but he matched a career-low with 39 catches in his first year in Minnesota. The emergence of rookie Stefon Diggs meant the Vikings benched Charles Johnson at split end.

Sinkfield, of course, is no guarantee to make the team out of training camp, but the addition of a burner at wide receiver is at least interesting.

Ever wonder what an alleged 4.19 40-yard dash looks like?
