Vikings reportedly hire Tony Sparano to coach the offensive line

The Vikings reportedly hired Tony Sparano on Wednesday to replace the outgoing Jeff Davidson as offensive line coach.

Sparano, 54, spent five years on the same staff in Dallas (2003-2007) as current Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, and most recently served as the tight ends coach last season for the San Francisco 49ers. Sparano also worked with Vikings’ defensive cooridnator George Edwards (2008-2009) while he served as head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2008 to 2011.

He replaces Davidson, who was let go this week following five seasons as the Vikings’ offensive line coach. Sparano has held title of offensive line coach at four stops, most recently with the Oakland Raiders in 2013.

Sparano’s agent and the Vikings did not immediately return requests for comment.

The Star Tribune reported the move.
