Adrian Peterson didn’t hesitate when asked a month ago what name he’s looking forward to passing on the all-time rushing list.
“O.J. Simpson.”
Peterson’s 158 rushing yards in Sunday’s 20-10 win for the Vikings in Atlanta moved him from 21st to 18th on the all-time rushing list, moving ahead of Simpson, Corey Dillon and John Riggins. Peterson (11,354) has already climbed 10 spots on the all-time list this season with his NFL-leading 1,164 rushing yards. He tied Simpson for the most 200-yard rushing games (6) by a running back, and is on pace to have one of the best seasons ever from a 30 year old in the backfield.
He’s currently on track for 1,693 rushing yards, carrying a Vikings offense that boasts the league’s top rushing attack and one of the lowest-volume passing offenses, doing so behind an offensive line stripped of two starters before the season’s first kickoff.
At his current pace, Peterson has a good chance of surpassing No. 17 Steven Jackson (11,388) and No. 16 Fred Taylor (11,695) by season’s end.
