Bleacher Report – Vikings

Everson Griffen active, Antone Exum to start for Vikings

By Andrew Krammer

A big opportunity awaits Antone Exum at the Georgia Dome as he’ll get his first career start for the Vikings against the Atlanta Falcons.

Exum, 24, will start for Harrison Smith, who returned to practice on a limited basis Friday but was downgraded from questionable to out on Saturday because of a knee injury. Exum will start alongside Andrew Sendejo, and could potentially be auditioning for a larger role as the strong safety spot has been a revolving door for years in Minnesota, predating Mike Zimmer’s hiring after the 2013 season.

The Vikings will also have their best pass rusher, defensive end Everson Griffen, as he is active despite being listed questionable with hip and shoulder injuries. Griffen will face a strong opponent in Falcons left tackle Jake Matthews.

Cornerback Josh Robinson is active for the first time this season with rookie Trae Waynes sidelined by an ankle injury.

Inactive for the Vikings: QB Taylor Heinicke, S Harrison Smith, CB Trae Waynes, DE Justin Trattou, LB Edmond Robinson, T Jeremiah Sirles and C Nick Easton

Falcons’ inactives: K Matt Bryant, CB Phillip Adams, RB Devonta Freeman, C James Stone, T Bryce Harris, DE, WR Leonard Hankerson and DE Malliciah Goodman

Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CT.
