Peterson: It’s ‘coaches’ job to put us in the best position’ to win

By Derek Wetmore

MINNEAPOLIS — Adrian Peterson had 13 carries for 45 yards in the Vikings’ 30-13 loss to the Packers, and he coughed up a costly fumble late in the game.

Afterwards, Peterson took responsibility for the players’ shortcomings — including a slew of penalties — but he also said he thinks the coaching staff needs to be better.

Peterson was asked after the game if he thought the Vikings, who led the division entering Sunday’s tilt, still needed to learn to handle team success.

“I think so. And I think it’s from the top to the bottom,” Peterson said. “The coaches on both sides and then the players, as well. No matter what position we were in, we got out calls and we didn’t execute on a lot of plays. And it came back to hurt us. But it’s the coaches’ job to put us in the best position as well. ”

Peterson scored a touchdown on the ground and averaged 3.5 yards per carry, but with the Vikings playing from behind after half time, his opportunities were limited.

Minnesota trailed 27-13 and was driving at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Peterson picked up 10 yards using a nifty spin move, but then fumbled the ball and the Packers recovered to effectively seal the victory.

“Just me doing what I do – trying to make a play,” Peterson said of putting the ball on the ground for the sixth time this season. “I remember spinning out and my legs got wrapped up and the ball got away from me. The defensive lineman did what those guys do, they caught me slipping on that one and it really hurt us.”
