Matt Kalil held out of practice again Thursday, Peterson limited

By Andrew Krammer

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Matt Kalil missed practice again on Thursday, but don’t look to Mike Zimmer for an update on the injured left tackle.

Zimmer is often short and reveals little about injuries, though he had an extended response when asked about Kalil’s availability for Sunday’s game against Green Bay. Kalil has been held out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday with an injured toe, and Zimmer used the latest injury inquiry to expand on his view.

“I assume so, yes,” Zimmer said. “What am I supposed to say? ‘No, he’s not going to play?’

“I don’t know why you ask me that, because you keep saying that and I’m not going to tell you if they’re going to play or not play anyway. So, I expect him to play.”

Rookie seventh-round pick Austin Shepherd has been the Vikings’ swing tackle this season and would most likely be the next man up should Kalil miss the first game of his career. Keep in mind, Kalil has played through a laundry list of injuries, which included chronic pain in both knees throughout last season. His absence from practice this week could be precautionary given his proven pain tolerance.

Kalil was the only player held out on Thursday, as running back Adrian Peterson (hamstring) and linebacker Anthony Barr (hand/knee) were limited.

Defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd (knee/ankle) was bumped up to full participation after being limited on Wednesday. Floyd had a limited role in Sunday’s game, playing 23 snaps in his first outing back from a three-game absence following a knee operation.

Also full participants: Linebacker Eric Kendricks (ribs), quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (left shoulder), defensive end Justin Trattou (foot), cornerback Marcus Sherels (shoulder), receiver Adam Thielen (shoulder), defensive tackle Tom Johnson (concussion), Floyd and running back Matt Asiata (quad).
