Rick Spielman was named the Vikings’ vice president of player personnel in May of 2006, replacing the bubbly Fran Foley after some inconsistences were found in the resume Foley had provided to the organization before his hiring.
On the day he was introduced, Spielman was asked about his exact role in the organization. He refused to divulge any of the specifics about how much power he would hold.
Not until four years later, when an embattled Brad Childress was inching closer to being fired, did it become clear why Spielman had been so evasive with his answers.
