EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Vikings easily could have severed ties with Adrian Peterson at any point in the last year and it would have made life easier for them.
But as Peterson faced charges of child abuse, sat out an NFL suspension and then openly lobbied for a fresh start with a new team, the Vikings stood firm in their desire to bring him back for the 2015 season.
This included reworking his contract in July, despite the fact that he had played in only the regular-season opener last year before his off-the-field issues forced him to sit.
