Having covered the NFL on a full-time basis for eight years, I learned there is one thing that happens in almost every contract negotiation.
The agent for the player who signed the contract provides as much information as possible to make it look like they got a great deal for their client. The team quietly sits back, says nothing about the figures, and smokes a victory cigar because, in reality, they won the negotiation.
The latest example of this came Tuesday when the Vikings redid the remaining three years on Adrian Peterson’s contract.
