By sdswanson

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Forbes Magazine has named the Minnesota Vikings one of “The World’s 50 Most Valuable Sports Teams” of 2014.

The Vikings, valued at about $1 billion, are ranked number 34 on the list. Forbes cites the team’s new $975 million stadium, which is set to open in 2016, as a factor that boosts their value.

The Chicago Bears are ranked at 18 and the Green Bay Packers are at 24. The teams are valued at $1.25 billion and $1.18 billion, respectively.

The Detroit Lions, who are valued at $900 million, are ranked 44 on the list.

There were no surprises when it came to the top three teams on the list, all of which are European soccer clubs: Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.

Real Madrid is valued at $3.44 billion.
