Report: Eagles won’t re-sign TE Trey Burton

By Matthew Coller

If the Minnesota Vikings want to add to their tight end group, it appears they will have a chance to sign a top free agent target. is reporting the Philadelphia Eagles will not re-sign No. 2 TE Trey Burton.

Reporter Matt Lombardo wrote:

The Eagles have made an offer that Burton “didn’t consider serious,” and unless the offer is sweetened, Burton likely will sign with another team, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told NJ Advance Media.

The 26-year-old fits the mold of the type the tight end the Vikings have sought over the past few years when they drafted athletic tight ends MyCole Pruitt and Bucky Hodges. Burton caught 23 passes for 248 yards and caught five touchdowns. He ran a 4.62 40-yard dash at the 2014 Combine.

The Vikings had a strong 1-2 punch at tight end last season. David Morgan ranked as one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL and Kyle Rudolph caught 57 passes and nin touchdowns. Adding Burton would provide more versatility for new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo.

However, after playing a role on the Super Bowl-winning Eagles, Burton could be looking for more playing time.
