Report: Tony Romo to retire, take Phil Simms’ place on CBS broadcast

By Matthew Coller

Experience? Who needs experience?

Only hours after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo would be stepping away from the game, Sports Business Journal is reporting that the soon-to-be 37-year-old will slide into the color analyst’s chair on CBS’s No. 1 NFL broadcast and replace Phil Simms.

Romo’s future has been in limbo since rookie Dak Prescott took over as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback at the beginning of last season. A preseason injury sidelined Romo and Dallas stayed with Prescott even after their long-time QB was ready to return.

The Cowboys were expected to release Romo and several teams had reportedly been interested in his services. Instead, he will only be talking on Sundays from now on.
