Top free agent left tackle says he is ‘intrigued’ to hit the market

By Matthew Coller

All eyes will be on Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Andrew Whitworth as we approach the opening of free agency on March 9. Joining SiriusXM radio, Whitworth indicated that the Bengals will have to improve their offer to keep him.

Andrew Whitworth tells @SiriusXMNFL that @Bengals spoken about re-signing him as LT. Intrigued to test UFA market if CIN doesn’t step up

Whitworth is coming off a terrific year in which he ranked No. 2 among all tackles by Pro Football Focus rankings. He has consistently been among the best pass protectors in the NFL over his 11 year career. If there is one concern about spending top dollar on Whitworth, it’s his age. At 35, he has not shown signs of aging, but linemen have a history of hitting a wall in their 30s.

Whitworth did play guard at times last season with the Bengals. The veteran tackle told local media that he wouldn’t want to stay in Cincinnati if they were going to move him away from his left tackle spot permanently.

Whitworth: I love it here and I want to be here but I want to play LT next year. If not here then elsewhere. @WCPO
