Vikings release guards Fusco, Harris

By Matthew Coller

The Minnesota Vikings announced Friday that they have released guards Brandon Fusco and Mike Harris.

Fusco struggled this season, ranking 63rd among guards by Pro Football Focus ratings and Harris missed the entire season with an undisclosed illness.

Releasing Fusco creates $3.2 million in cap room, but also leaves $1.6 in dead money. The veteran guard signed a five-year, $24.25 million contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings back in September 2014. He was scheduled to have a $4.8 million cap hit this season, $5.8 in 2018 and $5.2 in 2019.

Now in the market for a guard, the Vikings could have several big names targeted to replace Fusco including Kevin Zeitler, who reportedly is unlikely to return to Cincinnati, and TJ Lang of the Green Bay Packers.

According to overthecap.com the Vikings are now $22,796,743 under the cap.

Top free agent guard may hit the open market, will Vikings be interested?
