Bleacher Report – Vikings

Bradford ‘surprised’ by Turner’s resignation

By Matthew Coller

EDEN PRAIRE, Minn. – Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford said he learned the news of Norv Turner’s resignation when his wife got a notification of the news on her phone. His reaction: Surprise.

“I obviously didn’t see this coming,” Bradford said. “I was in here yesterday talking to him and didn’t really think anything was different.”

The difference in Bradford’s numbers between his first four starts and the last two weeks is stark. He has a 79.6 quarterback rating in the last two weeks after a 109.7 rating in the first four. The Vikings’ QB has also seen his yards per attempt drop from 7.9 to 5.8 after the bye week as well.

The Vikings now turn to a familiar face for Bradford in Pat Shurmur, who was his offensive coordinator in St. Louis and in Philadelphia.

“I’ve worked with Pat in several places and what we did in St. Louis was different than what we did in Philly, but I’ve always enjoyed working with Pat, he’s a great football mind.”

Bradford was asked whether there would be a major shift in the offense.

“Halfway through the season, I’m not sure you can completely change and offense and the terminology for everyone,” he said. “We’ll find out more today when we go to meetings and see the gameplan for Detroit.”

Throughout his press conference, the Vikings’ quarterback kept returning to the fact that the offense did not execute the gameplan that was laid out for them by Turner. Does he feel responsibility for the long-time OC resigning?

“Um, yeah,” Bradford said.
