McKinnon hopeful to play on Monday night

By Matthew Coller

The Minnesota Vikings’ rushing attack has struggled this season, but it will be much less dangerous if Jerick McKinnon cannot play Monday night against the Chicago Bears. Speaking before practice on Friday, McKinnon said his ankle “feels better” and he is hoping to play.

McKinnon injured his ankle against the Philadelphia Eagles when it appeared to get twisted during a tackle early in the game. He attempted to play through it but was forced to sit out the majority of snaps. On Friday he was out of the walking boot that had been protecting the injury on Thursday.

Despite averaging only 3.2 yards per carry this season, the third-year back has had his moments, gaining 85 yards against the New York Giants and busting off several key runs against the Houston Texans and Eagles. He has also been very effective over the last two seasons, averaging 4.8 yards per carry in his rookie year and 5.2 last season.
