Treadwell says coaches have told him ‘just keep working’

By Matthew Coller

Minnesota Vikings 2016 first-round draft pick Laquon Treadwell has only been on the field for 12 plays so far this season. On Thursday, the former Ole Miss standout was asked if the staff has been clear on the areas where he needs to advance his game to receive more snaps.

“No, no they haven’t,” Treadwell said. “They just [say] keep working. Next man up, that’s the mentality of this team, so just keep working.”

The Vikings have had opportunities to play their top pick as they lost Stefon Diggs for Week 5’s game against the Houston Texans. Instead Jarius Wright saw the majority of snaps.

Treadwell said “it’s up to the coaches” when asked if he has been given any indication if he will see more of the field soon.

“I’ll be ready,” he said.

Earlier this year, head coach Mike Zimmer hinted at a concern over Treadwell’s route running ability.

“He has to continue to do better in practice,” Zimmer said. “He’s working, just biding his time until he gets an opportunity like how [Stefon] Diggs was last year. I still think he’s thinking about the number of steps to take on each route and things like that, being at the right depth.”

General Manager Rick Spielman said before the bye week that he is not concerned with the fact that Treadwell hasn’t played much because it is indicative of the team’s depth and gives the rookie time to develop.
