Minnesota Vikings nickel cornerback Captain Munnerlyn has gone toe-to-toe with Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler quite a few times during his eight seasons in the NFL and he didn’t hesitate to invoke The Old Gunslinger’s name when discussing Monday night’s matchup against Cutler.
“He’s got a little Brett Favre in him,” Munnerlyn said. “He takes a lot of risks, but at the same time he’s a great quarterback. You look at Favre, he’s a Hall of Famer but they also labeled him as a gunslinger because he’d fit the ball through any window. [Cutler] will take some risks but at the same time, you live and die by that.”
Munnerlyn, who is in his third year as a Viking, said that Favre was his favorite player.
The Vikings defense slowed down Cutler last year enough to win both games against the Chicago Bears, but the veteran quarterback did end both matches with a quarterback rating over 90.
“Last year he took a step forward and played at a very high level,” Munnerlyn said of Cutler. “I don’t know what his touchdown to interception ratio was but I believe it was pretty good. He’s a gunslinger, he can throw the ball all over the field, he can make every single throw and he’s a very, very competitive guy.”
Cutler has been cleared after an injury has kept him out since Week 2. He will be taking on the league’s best defense…
You could say the #Vikings have a pretty good defense…. pic.twitter.com/yViiIWjbOY
