Vikings DC Edwards apologizes for DWI arrest

By Matthew Coller

Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards addressed his May DWI arrest on Thursday at Winter Park.

“I apologize to our organization, our owners, our players, everybody involved in this organization for the light that’s been shined upon them because of this poor decision that I made,” Edwards said. “It was definitely my responsibility, it was a poor decision on my part. I’ve taken the steps to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.”

Head coach Mike Zimmer said that Edwards was disciplined for his actions. Edwards would not say specifically what the team’s punishment was or what he has done since his arrest to keep his job or ensure it won’t happen again.

“Since then I’ve followed the protocol, I notified the team right away, I notified coach of it, all the protocol and went through the steps that were necessary to be here at this point right now,” Edwards said. “I’ve taken care of everything I need to take care of, I’ve put it behind me, it won’t happen again and I’m focused on what we need to get done.”

Asked if alcohol was an issue for him or if it was a one-time mistake.

“I don’t think it’s a one-time deal, I know it’s a one-time deal,” he said.

Star Tribune Vikings reporter Andrew Krammer obtained a copy of the police report.
