Injury issues continue to increase as Sharrif Floyd undergoes knee surgery

By Judd Zulgad

The hits just keep coming for the Vikings.

On the the day that running back Adrian Peterson underwent surgery to repair the lateral meniscus in his right knee, coach Mike Zimmer said Thursday that defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd also underwent a cleanup on his right knee to repair a cartilage issue.

Floyd had a similar surgery on his left knee last season. It’s not clear how long Floyd will be out but he missed four games after the surgery last season. Floyd, one of three first-round picks by the Vikings in 2013, played in the season-opener at Tennessee but hasn’t practiced since that game.

Floyd is no stranger to injuries. He played in all 16 games as a rookie, but missed two games in 2014 because of a knee injury and then sat out the three in 2015.

Floyd is the latest Vikings player to be forced out because of an injury. Teddy Bridgewater and Peterson are both out after having knee surgeries — Bridgewater will miss the season and Peterson also could miss the rest of the year — and left tackle Matt Kalil has been placed on the injured reserve and will have what is expected to be season-ending hip surgery.
