Bleacher Report – Vikings

With Adrian Peterson’s surgery scheduled, Vikings sign RB Ronnie Hillman

By Derek Wetmore

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — It’s one thing after another for the Minnesota Vikings this season.

Adrian Peterson tore his meniscus in his right knee in the Vikings’ win against the Packers on Sunday. Now, his surgery is scheduled for Thursday, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Zimmer said the extent of the surgery is not yet known. Surgeons will determine what needs to be done when they get a look at the meniscus during surgery, Zimmer said.

Peterson’s timeline to return will depend on the procedure.

In the interim, the Vikings have signed running back Ronnie Hillman, Zimmer said.

Hillman was a member of the Broncos the past 4 seasons, and he rushed for 863 yards for Denver last season. The 25-year-old had also worked out for the San Diego Chargers.

Zimmer said the team intends to keep its offense in place, despite replacing Adrian Peterson with some combination of Jerick McKinnon, Matt Asiata and Hillman; and replacing Teddy Bridgewater with Sam Bradford.

“It’s not like we’re going to go 5 wide every play,” Zimmer said.

The news was announced the same day that Zimmer said left tackle Matt Kalil has been placed on IR because of a hip that will require surgery, which could end his 2016 season, and possibly his Vikings career.
