Back Page: Deadspin needles Vikings with commemorative Love Boat brick

By Derek Wetmore

Deadspin is not above having a little fun at NFL the expense of NFL teams, and today, it’s the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings christened their new stadium Sunday with with a 17-14 win against the Packers. As part of constructing the stadium, they sold commemorative bricks that could be carved with personalized messages. That no doubt helped raise money, but in this once case at least, it also backfired.

Deadspin bought a $25 brick commemorating the Love Boat, one of the more pulicly embarrassing sports stories in recent memory.

It reads: “To My Beloved, The Minnetonka Queen,” which was one of the names of the boats for that fateful sex party involving several Vikings players.

If you’ve never heard of the Love Boat, we wouldn’t recommend Googling around for information — not while you’re at work, at least.
