Adrian Peterson forced out with injury to his right knee

By Judd Zulgad

MINNEAPOLIS — Adrian Peterson was forced to leave the Vikings’ game against Green Bay at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday because of an injury to his right knee.

The Pro Bowl running back was hurt on the Vikings’ second series of the third quarter on a 5-yard rush. Peterson stayed on the turf after getting to the Packers’ 32-yard line and eventually was helped to the sideline by the team’s athletic training staff. Peterson was unable to put any weight on his leg.

After being examined on the Vikings’ sideline he was carried to the locker room. The Vikings announced on their Twitter account that Peterson had suffered a knee injury and would not return to the game.

Peterson, 31, had 19 yards on 12 carries before the injury. That came after he gained only 31 yards on 19 rushing attempts, a 1.6-yard average, in the Vikings’ victory at Tennessee in Week 1.

Peterson suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee late in the 2011 season. He returned in 2012 and rushed for 2,097 yards.
