Vikings sign center Joe Berger to a 1-year contract extension

By Derek Wetmore

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Joe Berger beat out John Sullivan for the starting center job, and now he’s got a new contract.

The Vikings on Friday signed their center to a 1-year contract extension, the team announced. Berger is a 12-year NFL vet and he started in place of Sullivan last year when Sullivan missed a good portion of the year with back injuries and surgeries. He was cut in training camp, after the Vikings decided to go with Berger as their starter at center.

Berger is part of a reconstructed offensive line, which the Vikings will count on to take a step forward in pass blocking this year. The only holdovers from last year’s O-line are Berger and left tackle Matt Kalil. For a much more analytical breakdown of the offensive line, read this piece from Arif Hasan.
