Bleacher Report – Vikings

Zimmer, Bradford Non-Committal On Playing Sunday

By Vikings – WCCO | CBS Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Vikings coach Mike Zimmer and new quarterback Sam Bradford just aren’t sure yet if the team’s newest addition can play in the season-opener at Tennessee on Sunday.

Bradford spoke with the media after practice Monday for the first time since being traded to the Vikings on Saturday. General Manager Rick Spielman sent a 2017 first-round pick and a 2018 pick to Philadelphia to get Bradford.

Now entering his seventh NFL season, Bradford was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft after winning the Heisman Trophy at Oklahoma.

Bradford arrived to the Vikings team facilities Saturday afternoon and immediately got to work. They made the trade after Teddy Bridgewater’s season-ending knee injury in practice last Tuesday.

“Bradford throws the ball great and he’s been a starter. After Teddy got hurt we were going to figure out a way to play good and win,” Zimmer said. “That’s what we’re trying to do.”

Zimmer said it’s too early to know if Bradford will play Sunday, but did say he’ll split first-team reps with Shaun Hill.

Bradford didn’t give a timetable for when he would be ready to be on the field and lead the Vikings offense.

“I just don’t know,” Bradford said. “It just takes time and it takes reps, and unfortunately there’s not a lot of time for either. There’s a lot of meetings and walk-throughs and I’m trying to pick up as much as I can in the shortest time possible.”

In his best season in 2012, Bradford threw for more than 3,700 yards and 21 touchdowns with 13 interceptions.
