Bleacher Report – Vikings

Why Vikings fans are now rooting for Bradford’s price to look even steeper

By Derek Wetmore

The Vikings didn’t sit on their hands for too long. They gave up what looks like a lot in a trade Saturday to acquire quarterback Sam Bradford from the Eagles.

Per reports, the team parted with a 2017 first-round draft pick and a conditional fourth rounder in 2018.

That seems like a lot.

And if you’re a Vikings fan, you’re hoping it winds up looking like a lot more.

It may sound counter-intuitive but it’s pretty straightforward after seeing this report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

If Vikings go to NFC Championship game this season, conditional 4th-round pick in 2018 becomes a 3rd; if Vikings win SB, it becomes a 2nd.

Think what you want about Sam Bradford, but he now gets to join an offense centered on Adrian Peteron, albeit with a suspect offensive line. And that top-notch defense isn’t going anywhere.

The upshot of the trade is that Vikings fans are now hoping their favorite team gave up a first-round AND second-round pick in a trade for Bradford, who is in the first year of a two-year contract.

For a guy like Vikings GM Rick Spielman, who greatly values draft picks, that looks like a lot.
