Vikings guard Mike Harris says he has no timeline for return from illness

By Derek Wetmore

MANKATO – Vikings guard Mike Harris needs medical clearance for a head issue before he can return to Vikings practice, he said Saturday.

Harris is currently on the Non-Football Illness list stemming from an issue that arose in June, he said, but he declined to go into specifics about his condition.

“I’m going to keep it personal, I’m not going to go any farther than that. I’d like to thank the trainers, everybody taking care of me,” Harris said. “As soon as I get the clearance from my doctor, I’ll be back out here. Number one, just taking care of my health. I’m going to be around training camp, I’m still on the team. I’m still going to be supportive. As soon as I get the clearance I’ll be back.”

Offensive coordinator Norv Turner declined to comment on the situation.

Harris started 16 games at right guard for the Vikings last season. Brandon Fusco is moving from left guard to right guard this season – Fusco’s more natural position – where Harris likely would be competing for a starting role.

Harris said he has no timeline for his return.

When asked if he would play this season, Harris said: “I can’t say right now. I’m just taking it day-by-day.”

“It hurts right now not being able to play…Just a bump in the road, it’s a mild setback,” Harris said.

“It’s not going to hold me down for my career,” he said.
