Bleacher Report – Vikings

New ESPN analyst Randy Moss likes Laquon Treadwell’s fit with the Vikings

By Andrew Krammer

You’ll soon hear more from Randy Moss.

The future Hall of Fame receiver has joined ESPN as a NFL analyst during pregame coverage on Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown, the network announced Monday. Moss previously worked for three years as an analyst for FOX Sports following his retirement. The move comes a couple months after ESPN parted ways with another former Vikings great in Cris Carter.

Prior to the announcement, Moss spoke with Sports Illustrated’s MMQB on a range of topics including his work with a youth football camp, the league’s catch rule and the rookie receiver with the biggest upside. On the latter, Moss pointed to Vikings first-round pick Laquon Treadwell.

“I like the pickup that the Minnesota Vikings made in Laquon Treadwell because he has a quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater,” Moss told MMQB. “Sometimes you have to look at the quarterback, because there could be a wide receiver who goes to a team where the quarterback may not be that good in terms of arm strength.

“And sometimes a quarterback may go to a team where the wide receivers really aren’t that good. But I think when you look at Laquon Treadwell going to Minnesota, that’s a good situation. Teddy Bridgewater is going into his third season, and he’s had his feet wet a little bit and has the ability to understand how to move the ball down the field. I am definitely waiting to see how that is going to play out.”

Check out the Q&A for more from Moss. He’s not alone in his praise of the receiver or his fit with the Vikings. All-time great Jerry Rice said he liked what he saw on the field from Treadwell, who was the fourth and final receiver taken in the NFL Draft’s first round. His 40 time (4.63) caused some pause, but the Vikings were sold on his physical presence (6-2, 215) after he returned from a gruesome injury in 2014 to lead the SEC with 11 receiving touchdowns at age 20. Only the Rams averaged fewer passing yards per game than the Vikings last season.

Moss, who caught 101 touchdowns in eight seasons with the Vikings, is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame starting in 2018.
