Vikings sign RB CJ Ham after tryout, waive S John Lowdermilk to make room

By Andrew Krammer

MINNEAPOLIS — Another tryout player from last weekend’s rookie minicamp has earned a contract with the Vikings.

Running back CJ Ham, a Duluth, Minn. native, signed with the Vikings on Tuesday, the team announced. To make room, safety John Lowdermilk was placed on waivers.

Ham (6-1, 238) attended Augustana University and rushed for a career-high 1,097 yards and 16 touchdowns for those Vikings. He took part in NFL’s Vikings three-day rookie minicamp and becomes the sixth running back on the roster, joining Adrian Peterson, Jerick McKinnon, Matt Asiata, Brandon Ross and Jhurell Pressley.

Lowdermilk was initially signed onto the Vikings practice squad in December. He’s the son of former Vikings and Colts center Kirk Lowdermilk, who played professionally in Minnesota from 1985-1992.
