Once again, Vikings begin to swiftly finalize deals with draft picks

By Andrew Krammer

MINNEAPOLIS — Five days after last year’s draft, the Vikings officially finalized all 10 rookie contracts to become the first NFL team to do so.

They’re on track to do the same this year.

On Wednesday, the Vikings reportedly agreed to terms with sixth-round tight end David Morgan II, seventh-round defensive end Stephen Weatherly and seventh-round safety Jayron Kearse. They signed the first rookie two days ago, when German receiver Moritz Boehringer inked a deal quickly to submit his application for a P-1 work visa, which could take a couple days or a couple weeks to receive. His four-year deal is worth $2.49 million, including a signing bonus over $150,000.

So four of the eight picks have signed or are expected to soon. The Vikings’ aim is likely to get each deal out of the way before the start of Friday’s rookie minicamp.

Rookie contracts are quick to negotiate with dollar amounts predetermined, for both salary and bonuses, based on draft position under the 2011 collective bargaining agreement.
