Vikings draft German WR Moritz Boehringer in the sixth round

By Andrew Krammer

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Moritz Boehringer began watching American football because of running back Adrian Peterson.

And now he’s Peterson’s teammate.

The Vikings drafted Boehringer in the sixth round (180th overall) on Saturday, just more than a month after sitting down with him at his pro day at Florida Atlantic University. Boehringer is from Germany and did not play college football. He was eligible for the draft because he graduated high school in 2012.

A native of Aalen, Germany, Boehringer didn’t play football competitively until 2013.

The 22-year-old receiver totaled 70 receptions for 1,461 yards and 16 touchdowns for the Scwabisch Hall Unicorns of the German Football League last season. Boehringer (6-4, 227) is the second receiver taken with the Vikings’ first five picks in the draft.

He was selected with the 49ers draft pick the Vikings gained from the Gerald Hodges trade.
