Ep. 126: NFL draft and NCAA amateurism with agent Blake Baratz

By Andrew Krammer

On this episode of the Purple Podcast, Andrew Krammer, Judd Zulgad and ESPN.com’s Ben Goessling are joined by Minneapolis-based agent Blake Baratz, president of the Institute For Athletes.

How do agents approach the draft? What advice does Baratz give his clients during this tedious time?

We pivot to the NCAA and the ongoing debate of paying college players. As a players representative, Baratz falls on the side of paying NCAA athletes and we muse on possible solutions.

Zulgad asks Baratz about Colin Kaepernick’s situation in San Francisco, and how does that represent fleeting leverage in the NFL? While the system is geared toward teams, Baratz adds interesting insight into how agents can be faulted, too.

Vikings topics include a potential Harrison Smith extension, what would that look like? Baratz represents Panthers (and former Vikings safety) Kurt Coleman, what clicked for him?

Also, is there any chance the Vikings reunite with free agent WR Greg Jennings? Goessling explains why that’s a long shot.
