Vikings hire Brent Salazar as strength and conditioning coach

By Andrew Krammer

The Vikings filled the remaining vacancy on the coaching staff.

Brent Salazar has been hired to take over the strength and conditioning program, the team announced on Wednesday. Salazar joins the Vikings from Kansas City, where he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for nine seasons from 2007 to 2015. He replaces Evan Marcus, who was let go by the Vikings last month following a string of pectoral injuries, as well as weight room injuries that included center John Sullivan and running back Jerick McKinnon in the past two years.

According to ESPN, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer intends to stick with a free weight program implemented when he hired Marcus on his original staff during the 2014 offseason.

Jeff Hurd and Chaz Mahle are still listed as assistant strength coaches on the team’s website.
