Report: Vikings likely to be Lions’ Thanksgiving opponent

By Andrew Krammer

The Minnesota Vikings have one of the best records on Thanksgiving, and they’re expected to return after a 15-year absence.

According to the Sports Business Daily, the Detroit Lions’ most likely opponent in their annual Thanksgiving Day game next season is the NFC North-champion Vikings. The division was still called the NFC Central in the Vikings’ last Turkey Day game, a 2000 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

The Vikings are 2-1 in three holiday meetings with the Lions, the latest a loss in 1995. That’s the Vikings’ only loss in six Thanksgiving games, giving the franchise a 5-1 record trailing only the Philadelphia Eagles (6-1, min. three games).

Overall, the Vikings hold a 71-36-2 lead in the series against Detroit, however they’ve lost four of the last five trips to Ford Field. They ended a four-game road skid against the Lions with a win on Oct. 25.
