The countdown clock inside the Vikings’ preview center is ticking closer to the grand opening of U.S. Bank Stadium.

Slated to debut for the 2016 NFL season, the Vikings’ $1.1 billion home will have a formal opening in the first week of August, according to Michele Kelm-Helgen, chair of the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority. A handful of headlining events have already been scheduled, including the 2018 Super Bowl and the 2019 NCAA Final Four in men’s basketball.

Media were invited Tuesday to tour the NFL’s newest colossal venue, which is nearing 90 percent completion, according to the team. The structure has been enclosed since last fall and cranes removed. Mortenson Construction, the lead contractor, estimated 3.2 million man hours to get to this point, with roughly 800,000 to 900,000 hours remaining, mostly indoors.

Current Vikings players are expected to tour the new stadium sometime this spring. The turf will be installed in May.

Below is lounge seating for ‘Club Purple,’ one of the larger spaces being touted as a fantasy football center. The Vikings say the area will feature ribbon boards, televisions and other amenities to keep fans updated on games around the league.
