Vikings set to interview former Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur

By Andrew Krammer

The Vikings are set to interview former Eagles interim head coach and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, according to NFL Media.

Shurmur, 50, most recently served as the offensive coordinator under former Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly, stepping in as interim head coach for one game after Kelly was fired on Dec. 29. It’s not clear what position for which the Vikings are interested in Shurmur. He’ll interview on Friday, according to ESPN. A few other teams, including the St. Louis Rams, are also reportedly seeking interviews with Shurmur.

The Vikings’ only known coaching vacancy at this point is running backs coach, which opened Wednesday when Kirby Wilson left to take a running game coordinator job with the Cleveland Browns. While Shurmur has individually coached almost every position on offense, he’s never held the title of running backs coach in any of his 17 NFL seasons.

Shurmur has previously worked for the Eagles, Rams and Browns, climbing to his highest job title with Cleveland as head coach during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He’s spent five seasons as an offensive coordinator for two different teams between the Rams (2009-2010) and Eagles (2013-2015).

Shurmur and Vikings general manager Rick Spielman share the same agency, Professional Sports Representation.
