Vikings take step toward moving HQ, finalize 185-acre purchase in Eagan

By Andrew Krammer

The Vikings took a step toward moving team headquarters out of their nearly 13-acre plot in Eden Prairie, Minn.

On Tuesday, the team announced they’d finalized the purchase of an 185-acre lot in Eden Prairie, Minn. that was first publicly targeted in August as a replacement for their current home. The Vikings have been searching to move on from their current location just off Interstate 494, citing needs for more space and improved infrastructure.

In September, the Vikings rolled out a proposal with preliminary plans that included a conference center, hotel rooms, housing units, commercial and retail space as well as a team headquarters and practice space. An outdoor stadium is also in the plans. In October, Eagan City Council voted to approve the current outline.

“While completing this purchase is the next step in the potential relocation of the team’s headquarters and training facility,” co-owner Mark Wilf said in a statement. “Several steps remain before a conclusion is reached.”

The Vikings have worked out of their existing Winter Park headquarters since 1981.
