Vikings’ Everson Griffen to replace injured J.J. Watt in the Pro Bowl

By Andrew Krammer

Everson Griffen has been named to his first Pro Bowl.

Griffen will replace the injured J.J. Watt, who is recovering from groin surgery. Griffen was named an alternate for the second consecutive season as he’s posted 22.5 sacks in two years since becoming a full-time starter. Griffen earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his four QB hits, two sacks and a forced fumble in the Week 17 season finale at Lambeau Field.

He finished with a team-high 10.5 sacks this season while playing through a lingering shoulder injury that may require surgery, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

“[Griffen] may have to get something done if he doesn’t go to the Pro Bowl,” Zimmer said Tuesday.

Griffen joins running back Adrian Peterson as the only two Vikings currently on the Pro Bowl roster.
