Bleacher Report – Vikings

Harrison Smith and Anthony Barr ruled out for Vikings vs. Bears

By Andrew Krammer

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Safety Harrison Smith’s injured left leg will take longer to heal as he’s been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

Smith was a limited in practices on Wednesday and Thursday, but was unable to do more than warm up and stretch with his teammates on Friday. Smith, who said his separately designated knee and hamstring injuries ‘are all the same’ ailment, didn’t feel he took a step back, but said he’s still not where he wants to be.

“No setback, just not as good as I was hoping,” Smith said.

Ten days between games wasn’t enough time to heal Smith and linebacker Anthony Barr, who is dealing with a groin injury in addition to a broken hand. Both were ruled out Friday. Barr was held out of practice all week, and will join Smith in missing the second consecutive game. Safety Anthony Harris is expected to start alongside Andrew Sendejo. Rookie linebacker Edmond Robinson will likely start for Barr again in the Vikings’ base defense.

Receiver Charles Johnson (ankle) and defensive end Scott Crichton (concussion) have also been ruled out. That means defensive end Justin Trattou, who was waived two weeks ago and re-signed this week, could be active on Sunday against Chicago.

Two key defenders in end Everson Griffen (shoulder) and nose tackle Linval Joseph (foot) are questionable after practicing on Friday. Joseph returned to practice for the first time this week since injuring his foot in the Nov. 29 win at Atlanta.

Sendejo (knee), safety Robert Blanton (knee) and linebacker Brandon Watts (rib) are probable.

Bears’ injury report: CB Bryce Callahan (quad) is doubtful; WR Alshon Jeffery (calf/illness), TE Zach Miller (ribs), LB Pernell McPhee (knee), CB Tracy Porter (ankle) and DL Will Sutton (knee) are questionable.
