Bleacher Report – Vikings

Harrison Smith returns to practice, while three other starters were held out

By Andrew Krammer

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Vikings had a full secondary at practice for the first time in a while.

Safety Harrison Smith was healthy enough to return on Wednesday, the first time he donned pads at the Vikings’ training facilities since leaving the Dec. 6 loss against Seattle.

Smith, who joined safeties Andrew Sendejo, Robert Blanton and Anthony Harris at practice, is still listed with both knee and hamstring injuries. Those ailments occurred in two separate games. Smith told local reporters on Wednesday that he felt he was “moving around all right” upon his first practice since he was pulled early from the loss to the Seahawks.

While nose tackle Linval Joseph was spotted at practice for the first time since injuring his foot in the Nov. 29 win at Atlanta, he was officially a non-participant. During the open portion, Joseph worked with athletic trainer Eric Sugarman near the sideline.

The Vikings were without three defensive starters as Joseph, linebacker Anthony Barr (hand/groin), defensive end Everson Griffen (shoulder) and defensive end Scott Crichton (concussion/neck) did not practice on Wednesday.

Barr, who played through a broken hand last month, has not practiced since he was pulled early from the loss to Seattle.

It’s unclear if Griffen’s shoulder injury is the same one that plagued him last month. Griffen injured a shoulder in the Vikings’ first meeting against Chicago on Nov. 1, but until Wednesday, he had not been on the injury report for a couple weeks.

Linebacker Brandon Watts (rib) and Sendejo (knee) were limited. Blanton (knee) was listed as a full participant.

Bears’ injury report: CB Bryce Callahan (quad), CB Sherrick McManis (concussion) and TE Zach Miller (illness) did not practice; WR Alshon Jeffery (calf), LB Pernell McPhee (knee), CB Tracy Porter (ankle) and DL Will Sutton (knee) were limited.
