Vikings return to practice Tuesday without Joseph, Barr or Smith

By Andrew Krammer

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Vikings returned to the practice field on Tuesday after an extended weekend, and did so without their trio of injured defensive stars.

Nose tackle Linval Joseph (foot) was the only player not seen during the open portion of practice. Joseph has not practiced in over two weeks since injuring his foot in the Nov. 29 win at Atlanta. Safety Harrison Smith (hamstring/knee) and linebacker Anthony Barr (hand/groin) went through stretches with teammates on Tuesday before leaving practice. Barr and Smith have not practiced since their injuries forced them out of the Dec. 6 loss to Seattle.

As coach Mike Zimmer anticipated, safety Andrew Sendejo (knee) appears the closest to returning to action as he donned a helmet and took part of practice. Sendejo injured his knee against the Falcons and has been held out of the last two games.

Linebacker Brandon Watts (rib) also returned to practice, while defensive end Scott Crichton, who was evaluated for a concussion in Thursday’s loss at Arizona, worked on the side with an athletic trainer.

Otherwise, the Vikings had all hands on deck, including safety Anthony Harris, who was promoted from the practice squad last week, as well as defensive end Justin Trattou, who re-signed on Monday when the team waived Shaun Prater.
